Mrs. Johnnell Spillers, 91, of Mexia passed away Sunday morning, October 4, 2015, in Mexia. She was born January 2, 1924 in Delia to John and Sallie Talley Liles. Johnnell married Ray Spillers, June 1, 1941 in Mexia and they enjoyed many happy years together before his death. She retired from Southwestern Bell Telephone Co. as an operator after 32 years of service. Johnnie, as she was affectionately known, was always quick with a smile and made people feel comfortable in her presence. This character trait made her perfect for volunteer work as a pink lady at the hospital, Red Cross volunteer and church activities at the Presbyterian church. In her younger days she and Ray enjoyed fishing together. As her health declined her main joy was taking care of her dogs who she treated more like children. Johnnell is survived by a host of Nieces and Nephews and many friends. Visitation with the family will be Tuesday evening, October 6, 2015 from 6 to 8 PM. Funeral services will be 2 PM Wednesday at the First Presbyterian Church in Mexia with Reverend Glenn McGuire officiating. Interment will follow in the Mexia Cemetery. Pallbearers will be her nephews, Rondell Jones, David Jones, Donald Jones, Bobby Jack Liles, Charles Spillers and Willie Bougus.
