Mrs. Judith Marie (Berseth) McNitt passed away Monday, December 30, 2024, in Waco, Texas. She was born December 14, 1928, in Stanley, Wisconsin to Edward and Ragna Holte Berseth, the youngest of nine children. Her parents were first generation Norwegian immigrants.
Growing up in the depression era, she learned the value of hard work and discernment for items of value. Her father owned a general store which helped her hone her business savvy.
At a young age, she worked in a movie theater in Stanley, Wisconsin and later in the payroll departments of a cheese factory and the United States Army. She also found time to model.
Judith later married Warren L. McNitt and they enjoyed 58 years together before his death in 2015. She was a true homemaker, helping her husband and sons with their love for airplanes. She was always surrounded by pilots and airplane mechanics. Judith supported their efforts by keeping them well fed and making German Chocolate Cakes.
Moving frequently, she had to be ready to set up housekeeping in the many states where they lived following Warren’s endeavors.
She was very adept at finding treasures at flea markets and re-selling them for a profit, a skill which she passed on to her grandson, Clyde. Most of the items she bought, she re-sold; however, she did enjoy dolls and maintained a collection of them.
Her family was near and dear to her, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Since moving to Mexia, she enjoyed her church family at the First Baptist.
She was preceded by her husband Warren McNitt; son, Jim McNitt, granddaughter Hannah Rose McNitt; stepsons, Lee McNitt and Dick McNitt and her eight siblings.
Survivors are her son David McNitt and wife Jessica Patton; daughter in law, Kim McNitt, stepson Lane McNitt; grandchildren, Clyde McNitt, Clayton McNitt, Hannah McNitt, Sarah McNitt, five great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, January 2, 2025, at Blair-Stubbs Chapel with Reverend Robert Blackmon officiating. She will be laid to rest in the Madrid Cemetery in Madrid, Nebraska.
