Leta Glass

Leta Glass, (nee Leta Maud Crawley) formerly of Mexia, passed away in Bryan, Texas on January 28, 2020, at the age of 99.

Born to Will and Verna Crawley on January 27, 1921 in New Hope, Leta was raised in the Mexia area (New Hope, Cotton Gin) and she attended the New Hope School. In her early twenties she worked in Dallas at the John E. Mitchell plant. She was one of many women who worked as welders at the plant during World War II.

In 1945, Leta married Thomas W. Glass of Waco, TX. Through the years they resided in Abilene, Corsicana, Odessa, Houston, and San Angelo, but in the 1980's made their final move back to Mexia. They raised three children: Ellen, Thomas (Tom) and Teri. They were married for fifty-five years.

Leta found her joy in family and friends. She was an excellent cook and, in our family, food was hospitality served with a smile. Seconds were not optional, they were mandatory. She enjoyed reading novels and biographies, and she was a wordsmith. Her penned notes and letters were often colorful and eloquent.

Leta was a member of the Baptist church and exemplified what it means to be a Christian.

She is survived by her daughters, Ellen Barnes and Teri Glass, her son, Thomas W. Glass Jr.and his wife Brenda, her sister Ella Lee West, grandchildren Susan Moore, Natalie Camargo and husband James, Richard Pasley and wife Megan, Lindsye Edwards and husband Dax, Natalie Miller and husband Chris, and Greg Glass. Her great grandchildren are Parker Edwards, Seth Pasley, Bryce Gilmore and wife Crystal, Nicolas Gilmore, Colton Moore and wife Rashi, Ashton Stallings, Caleb and Ashton McIntyre, Zachary and Noah Joiner, Colt, Cate and Cambry Miller. Great-great granddaughters are Alexandra Stallings and Kyler Grace Harrison. Numerous nieces and nephews are also a part of her treasured family.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Will and Verna Crawley, husband Thomas W. Glass, sister Erma Trent, brother Willie Weldon "Buddy" Crawley, and great-great grandson Kraig Ryan Thomas Stallings.
