Lila Mae Kirk passed away peacefully in Mexia, Texas on December 3, 2023 at the age of 95. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, December 8, 2023, in the Moore Memorial Park in Arlington, Texas with Pastor Bill Hardin officiating.
Mae was born May 29, 1928 in Somerville, Texas to Herman and Ida (Oppermann) Witte. She married Curtis Kirk in February 1950 and they were blessed with 62 wonderful years together, prior to his death in 2012.
Mae’s life revolved around family and helping others. As a young mom, she was a beautiful housewife, loved being part of the church community, and spent many hours with her three sisters, Ida, M.C., and Barbra. The sisters loved to visit and helped each other raise their seven kids through many ups and downs. She loved taking the kids to garage sales when they were able to visit on weekends. Some Saturdays they might hit ten sales in a day!
As a nanny, she would make the best goulash! Even as her health faded, she loved her grandkids and would let them play with her collection of dolls. She was always there for everyone and ready to help – family or not!
Mae lived life to the fullest; she was such a hoot and sooo much fun to be around. One of her families’ fondest memories was of her laughing and tossing her head when she was tickled. She also spent endless hours writing letters and sharing recipes with loved ones. Mae loved chocolate; one of her recent quotes was “Chocolate Will Never Let You Down”.
Having been blessed with 95 years of life, Mae’s family will have so many wonderful memories to share with each other in the years to come.
