Linda G. Kennedy Watson, 79, passed away on September 29, 2021 at home in Thornton, Texas, following a lengthy illness. Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m., Friday, October 1, 2021 at Blair-Stubbs Funeral Home chapel, in Thornton, with Pastor John Carabin officiating. Interment will follow in the Thornton Cemetery. David Mills, Tyrell Hobbs, Cody Mills, Dylan Hicks, Keith Edward Latimer, and Bobby Wilson will serve as pallbearers.
Visitation with the family will be prior to the service beginning at 9:00 a.m.
Linda was born on January 17, 1942 in Marlin, Texas to Coleman and Marguerite (Boatler) Kennedy. She grew up in Thornton and graduated Valedictorian of the Thornton High School Class of 1960. She loved Thornton and had fond memories of growing up in a town where you knew everyone, neighbors helped neighbors, and people watched out for everyone’s kids. This year, Linda was pleasantly surprised, and honored, after the Thornton Ex-Students Homecoming Committee selected her to represent Thornton as their Homecoming Queen.
Linda began her working career as a “soda jerk” in the Black Drug Store, then worked as a PBX operator, telephone long distance operator, truck driver and retired from the Mexia State School. Although her jobs meant moving and living in various towns, Thornton was always home.
Although Linda enjoyed many things in life, there was nothing more important than her family and her relationship with God. She was a loving wife and mother but her favorite role was that of “GiGi” to her grandchildren and great grandmother. “GiGi” loved and cherished her grandchildren, but her love grew even stronger as the great grandchildren came along. She was, also, a friend to many and she will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
Linda was a longtime member of the Thornton Methodist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Coleman and Marguerite Kennedy.
Linda is survived by her husband, Roger Watson; children, Oakley Dean Mills and wife, Renee Mills, Richard Watson, and Melissa Watson Latimer and husband, Keith Edward Latimer; grandchildren, David Mills and wife, April Mills, Leanne Hobbs and husband, Tyrell Hobbs, and Ashley Mills; seven great grandchildren; and her four pets, Johnny, Milly, Keta and Kali.
