Lola Margret Johnston Focke, of College Station (formerly of Mexia) passed peacefully from this earth on January 8, 2013 at Hospice Brazos Valley Inpatient Facility in Bryan. Funeral services will be 11AM, Friday, January 11, 2013 at Blair-Stubbs Chapel in Mexia with Rev. Tom Prentiss officiating. A short visitation with the family will be immediately after the service. Graveside services will follow in the Mexia Cemetery. Lola was born November 11, 1926 in Mexia, Texas to Hallie Grace (Moore) and Albert S. Johnston, Sr. She graduated from Mexia High School in 1943 and attended Westminister College in Tehuacana. She married Glenn Bounds, who shortly after their marriage died when his troop ship was sunk off the coast of North Africa. On May 6, 1946, she married the love of her life, J. Herman Focke, Jr. ‘41. Lola was dedicated to her family and her church. Her love of children was demonstrated in her work as a School Librarian at Ross Avenue Elementary and A. B. McBay Elementary in Mexia. She played the piano and organ for her church, as well as singing in the Chancel Choir and ringing in the Handbell Choir. She accompanied Sunday school classes, children's choirs, school choirs and performers in the annual Rotary Talent Show. Lola played piano weekly for the Mexia Rotary Club for about 35 years and traveled with her husband in his duties as Rotary District Governor. She was a Rotary Paul Harris Fellow and member of the Eastern Star and loved playing bridge. She was a lover of all things "Aggie", but especially the Fightin' Texas Aggie Band of which her husband, son and a grandson were members. She was a member of FUMC, Mexia and attended Covenant Presbyterian Church, College Station. Lola's family was her reason for leaving. After the death of her husband, Herman on August 11, 1985, even though a piece of her heart never healed, she poured her love out to them. She is survived by her son, John Herman Focke, III, MD and his wife, Maggi of College Station; grandchildren, John B. (Joby) Focke of Plano, Scott Focke and wife, Jennifer of Denton and Megan Focke Barr and husband, Jesse of N. Mankato, MN; great-grandsons, Caiden and Ryker Focke and Jaxon Barr; sisters-in-laws, Ellen Focke Webb and Dorothy Helen Focke Stringer; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Memorials may be made to FUMC, 203 N. Canton, Mexia, TX 76667 or Covenant Presbyterian Church (note: Handbell Memorial Fund), 220 Rock Prairie Rd., College Station, TX 77845.
