Loyd Burkeen

Loyd Carl Burkeen passed away February 2, 2018 in Mexia, Texas at the age of 88. Funeral services will be 2 PM, Monday, February 5, 2018 at Blair-Stubbs Chapel with Judge Daniel Burkeen officiating. Interment will follow in the Concord Cemetery near Jewett, Texas. Visitation with the family will begin at 1 PM, prior to the service. Loyd was born, a twin, January 7, 1930 in Leon County to William Harrison and Ruth Edna Brooks Burkeen. He married his lifelong partner, Johnnie May Horne on August 2, 1954. He retired from the Mexia State School, after having worked there for many years. Although Loyd was rather quiet and easy going, he was also friendly and treated everyone with respect. He was a hard worker, enjoyed gardening (always had a big garden) and loved to go walking. He and his wife lived a happy, simple life together for 63 years. He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Lillie Brem, Ozelle Bosl, Dempsey Burkeen, Henry Burkeen, Lee Burkeen and twin brother, Boyd Burkeen. Loyd is survived by his loving wife, Johnnie Burkeen of Mexia; and nieces and nephews. Loyd's family would like to express their sincere thanks and appreciation to the staff at Mexia LTC and Providence Hospice of Mexia for their wonderful care.
