Margaret Doris Sims, of Mexia, passed away April 20, 2017 in Waco, Texas. Funeral services will be 2 PM, Sunday, April 23, 2017 at Prairie Grove Baptist Church with Rev. Randal Eberle and Rev. Clifton Jones officiating. Interment will follow in the Prairie Grove Cemetery. Andy Day, Mike Williams, Tracy Lansford, Nathan Fullenwider, Carl Wayne Sims, Christopher Mays, Frank Eberle and Bryan Bolen will serve as pallbearers. Visitation with the family will be 5-7 p.m., Saturday, at Blair-Stubbs Funeral Home. Doris was born November 30, 1928 in San Antonio, Texas to Frank M. and Mabel C. Owen Burkett. She married the love of her life, Carl Sims, on June 14, 1946 in San Antonio and they were blessed with five children. Although busy being a mother and homemaker, she was, also, office manager for Frank Jones Insurance for 20 years. Doris was a faithful Christian; she loved the Lord and lived everyday serving him in every way possible. She loved to read her Bible each day, was an avid prayer warrior, a member of WMU and was responsible for many family members becoming Christians. She enjoyed playing the piano for the church and family singings; Doris loved her family and church family. She was a lady of great faith, led by example and raised her children in a loving Christian home. She was a longtime active member of Prairie Grove Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband of 61 years, Carl Sims; daughter, Deborah Brooks; grandson, Keith Mays, Jr.; great-granddaughter, Stephanie Parks; sisters, Claire Burkett Zedler and Patsy Burkett Riley; son-in-law, Richard Eberle and grandson-in-law, Mike Samples. Doris is survived by her children, Ruth Anne Eberle of Mexia, Wayne Sims and wife, Kathy of LaVernia, Nancy Mays and husband, Keith of Taylor and Gary Sims and wife, Rita of Rockwood; grandchildren, Frank Eberle, Melissa Day, Jennifer Lansford, Sherry Wiggins, Christopher Mays, Wendy Kyrish, Becky Fullenwider, Laura Williams, Kim Baker, Kristi Rhodes, Randal Eberle, Brandy Smith, Heather Bolen and Carl Wayne Sims; 37 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Providence Hospice, 6700 Sanger Avenue, Waco, TX 76710 or Providence Hospice, 107 E. Commerce, Mexia, TX 76667.
