Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m., Sunday, December 11, 2022 at Blair-Stubbs Funeral Home with Pastor Mario Rivera officiating. Interment will follow in the Mexia Cemetery. Miguel Fuentes, III, Roberto Fuentes, Victor Salinas, Rey Villanueva, Greg Washington, Ivan Salinas, and Miguel Rodriguez will serve as pallbearers.
Mercy was born January 24, 1964 in Iraan, Texas. She has been a resident of Mexia for 38 years. In addition to being a loving wife, mother, and grandmother, she was a teacher in Mexia ISD for 20 plus years. To Mercy, teaching gave her so much happiness, she dearly loved her students. She also had a special bond with her nieces and nephews. Mercy's love for all children was so evident in her life.
Mercy was a strong Christian woman, a faithful servant of the Lord. She was a longtime member of the Nueva Vida Church. She was a hard worker, willing to do whatever was necessary to take care of her family and many others. Mercy was happiest when she was surrounded by family, especially, her grandchildren. Having been a very good cook, she was known for baking the best pineapple upside-down cake and her Texas size burritos were always in demand.
Mercy never met a stranger; she had an outgoing personality, always appeared happy, and met everyone with a smile and a friendly "hello". She will truly be missed by everyone who knew and loved her.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Elida (Lopez) Morena; and two brothers, Boyce and Nacho Villanueva.
Mercy is survived by her husband of 41 years, Miguel Fuentes, II of Mexia; sons, Miguel Fuentes, III and wife, Dina and Roberto Fuentes and wife, Alicia all of Mexia; grandchildren, Anna, Miguel, IV, Alyssa, Elsa, Rihanna, Kaylee, Kalynn, Natalie, and Nevaeh Fuentes; brothers, Ray Villaneuva and Victor Salinas; a number of nieces and nephews; and numerous former and present students.
