Mrs. Mary Evelyn Ragan, 85, of Coolidge passed away Saturday, July 21, 2007 at her residence in Coolidge. Mrs. Ragan was born October 27, 1921 in Austin to Morris Evelyn and Stella Louesta Belk Burnett. Mrs. Ragan was preceded in death by her husband, J.T. Ragan who died 21 years ago. She met Mr. Ragan in Dallas and they were married there before moving to Coolidge where they lived for over 50 years. They owned and operated in the Independent Gin Co., the only gin in Coolidge. Mrs. Ragan also worked for the Peeples Telephone Company in Coolidge for many years. She was a longtime active member of the First United Methodist Church in Coolidge where she served at Treasurer. Mrs. Ragan is survived by her sister, Estelle B. Quiroz of Salado, and by her nephews, Don King Robinson of Austin and John Dwayne Robinson of Vasalt, Colorado. She is further survived be her beloved cousins, Florine Powers of Marshall, Apple Johnson of Salado and Billie Adair Montour of Albuquerque, New Mexico. Services for Mrs. Ragan will be 1:30 P.M. Wednesday, July 25, 2007 at the First United Methodist Church in Coolidge. The Reverend Judy VanHemert will officiate and interment will follow in the Coolidge cemetery beside her husband, J. T. Ragan. Pallbearers will be Bill Baily, Wyatt Wilson, Randall Jacobs, W.H. "Bill" Lowry, Allen Johnston and Kenneth Arnold. Visitation will be from Noon until 5 pm on Tuesday at funeral home and from 11 am until service on Wednesday at the church in Coolidge.
