Mellie Robinson

Funeral services for Mellie Jean Robinson, 83, of Mexia will be Wednesday, June 25, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. in the Blair-Stubbs Chapel. Rev. Marcus Sheffield will officiate with interment to follow in the Mexia Cemetery. Mrs. Robinson was born to Benjamin O. and Hazel (Meek) Barnett on November 8, 1924 in Thornton, Texas. She retired from San Antonio ISD after many years of teaching. Mrs. Robinson was instrumental in starting the Gifted and Talented Program in the Mexia ISD. She was a member of the First Christian Church where she also served as the choir director and organist for many years. Mrs. Robinson is survived by a daughter, Mellie Jean Towles Risner of Mexia; a step-son, Morris L. Towles of San Antonio; two grandchildren, Damion M. Valsamaki and Jonathan E. Risner both of Mexia; three great-grandchildren, Alexander Valsamaki, Chelsey O'Connell and Alexis Valsamaki. Mrs. Robinson was preceded in death by her parents and two husbands, Morris D. Towles and Dr. Thomas Wayne Robinson.
