Michael Nance

Michael Timothy Nance passed away after a brief illness in a Waco hospital on January 11, 2008. He was born on August 28, 1943, in Goose Creek, TX. Mike was a 1961 graduate of Robert E. Lee High School in Baytown, TX. After high school, Mike married Linda Ruth Nelson on May 9, 1964, in Baytown. He served 20 years in the U.S. Air Force, being stationed in Turkey, England, Germany, Arizona, Minnesota, and Georgia. He retired in 1985 in Valdosta, GA. Mike fulfilled his childhood dream of driving a steam train when he worked at the Agrirama Living Museum in Tifton, GA, in 1987. Mike had many varied interests including the study of mushrooms, world events, gadgetry, and genealogy. He was self-taught in computers, and was an active member of the Thornton Cemetery Association and an Associate Member of the Limestone County Republican Women's Club. His life continues to be celebrated by his wife Linda; son Charles Michael Nance and daughter-in-law Elizabeth "Elaine" of Groesbeck, TX; daughter Deborah Ruth Walton, son-in-law Ben James Walton, granddaughters Aislinn Ruth and Willow Rowan Walton of Lubbock; parents Pat and Walker Nance of Thornton, TX; brother Bill Nance and his wife Bonnie of Greenville, TN; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his mother Alvie Wright Nance of Baytown, TX, and his grandparents. The memorial service will be Monday, Jan. 14, 2008 at 3 PM in the Blair-Stubbs Chapel in Thornton, TX. Interment will be in the King Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Mike Nance Memorial Thornton Cemetery Restoration Fund, PO Box 157, Thornton, TX 76687.
