Nannie Lee Randolph Wasson, 92, passed away in Concord, California on Sunday, February 11, 2006. She was born August 1, 1913 in Old Troy, in Bell County, to Robert Anderson and Lady Nina (Fowler) Randolph. Mrs. Wasson moved to a farm near Mexia in Limestone County in 1916 with her parents and two older brothers, Jay and Tommy, to assist in running the Fowler Dairy. When the Mexia Oil Boom brought an influx of people to Mexia, Nan's family moved to Mexia, so her father could build houses for the new residents. Nan attended Mexia Public Schools and graduated valedictorian of her class in 1931. She was one of the first recipients of the Mexia Academic Sweaters. After high school, John Phillips at Karner-Phillips employed her as a sales clerk for almost ten years. In 1959, she began working at Casual Fashions where she worked as a sales clerk for about 15 years, first with Charles and Norma Alsobrook and then Ina Beth and Jack Forrest. Nan married Felix Wasson on February 5, 1938 in Tehuacana, Texas at the home of Rev and Mrs. Shivers. Three children were born to that union. Their marriage lasted 34 years until his death in November 1972. Except for the three years during WWII that Nan and Felix lived in San Antonio, and the five years they lived in Huntsville, Nan lived 76 years of her life in Mexia, Limestone County. She loved Mexia, often calling it her "Mecca on the Navasota." She was an active member in the First Methodist Church, serving on the Official Board for numerous years. She was on the committee responsible for the selecting the design and planning the construction of the present sanctuary. She was an avid reader, and was pleased that after cataract surgery she could read her Bible without glasses. She was a sponsor of the MHS Academic Sweater Association and the Mexia Public Library. Her children and grandchildren will always remember her for wonderful memory and stories of early days in Mexia. Her parents, Robert and Lady Nina Randolph, her husband, Felix Wasson, brothers, Jay Randolph and Tommie Randolph, and her son, Bob Wasson, precede her in death. Mrs. Wasson is survived by a son, Bill Wasson and wife Julie; a daughter, Mary Nan White and husband, Bill; and a daughter-in-law, Dallas Wasson. She loved and adored her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Grandchildren, Donald Wasson, Drew Wasson and wife Jill, Patrick Wasson and wife Kim Marchant, Jeffery Wasson, Jeannie Steele and husband Jeremy, Kay Cook and husband Grant, Michael White and wife Stephanie, and Amy Thomas, and husband Kyle. The real light of her life in the past three years has been her great grandchildren, Hailey White, Ben White, Cass Marchant, and Travis Steele. A visitation with the family will be at Blair-Stubbs Funeral Home, in Mexia, on February 18, 2006 from 1 to 2 P.M. At 2P.M. a memorial celebration of life service will be conducted in the chapel at Blair-Stubbs with Dr. Andy Fowler of Killeen officiating. Nan would have wanted donations made to the MHS Academic Sweater Fund, the Mexia Public Library, the First Methodist Church in Mexia, or to a favorite charity of your choice.
