Neva Kate Felz

Neva Kate Felz, of Mexia, passed away at her home on March 31, 2023 at the age of 91.  Visitation with the family will be 12:00 – 1:00 p.m. at Blair-Stubbs Funeral Home on Monday, April 3, 2023.  Graveside services will follow in the Union Cemetery in Freestone County at 1:30 p.m.

Neva was born November 8, 1931 in Personville, Texas to Gilbert Christian and Ruby Kate (Harrington) Moree, the first of nine children.  She was a beautician and owner of the Cut & Curl Beauty Shop in Mexia for many years.  She married Billy Ed Felz on June 12, 1969 at the Waco Methodist Church; they were blessed with 39 years together, prior to his death on July 4, 2008.

Neva was a faithful Christian who dedicated her life to serving the Lord.  She was a member of the First Assembly of God Church.  She had an outgoing personality and a big heart.  She dearly loved her family, which also included her four-legged friends.  Her constant companions were her three dogs, Missy (her favorite), Muffin, Bear, and one cat.

Neva was a hard worker, in addition to working outside the home, she enjoyed gardening, canning, and cooking her home grown vegetables.  She, along with Billy Ed, were avid hunters and enjoyed fishing.  In the early years of her life, every meal was prepared from what they had grown, and/or the things they reaped from hunting and fishing.

She was preceded in death by her father, Gilbert Christian; mother, Ruby Moree; stepfather, Frank Moree; eight siblings, Jean Laird, Verna Lou “Bonnie” Cornett, Patsy “Pat” King, Phyliss Denny, Gary Christian, Frank Ross Moree, Jr., Wayne Christian, and Velva Jo Griffith.

Neva is survived by brothers-in-law, Billy King and Charles Griffith; sister-in-law, Pat Christian; and numerous nieces and nephews.
