Patsy Jean Britt

Patsy Jean (Bolen) Britt passed peacefully from this world on August 31, 2024 at 83 years of age after a valiant battle with throat cancer. She was surrounded by her loving family as she passed from this life into her eternal reward.

Patsy was born November 14, 1940 to Alvin and Ada Bolen near Coolidge, TX. She grew up in and around the town of Coolidge and graduated from Coolidge High School in the summer of 1959. Following the death of her father in 1960, Patsy moved to Waco to work and help support her mother and younger sister, Lesa. She briefly attended Navarro College in Corsicana, TX before transferring to Sam Houston State College in 1964. While attending SHSC, she met and began dating the love of her life, Jim Britt, in January, 1964. They were married on August 28, 1965 and went on to have three children: Lea Ann, Robert, and Vance.

Patsy impacted hundreds of young lives through her work with young people at Sharpstown Church of Christ and, later, as a beloved Third Grade teacher at both Sharpstown Christian School and Sugar Grove Christian School before retiring in 2011. She enthusiastically embraced becoming a grandmother (Mimi) and fiercely loved her grandchildren. It was with tremendous joy that she met her great-granddaughter this year.

Patsy was preceded in death by her parents, Alvin and Ada Bolen. Left to cherish her memory are her loving and devoted husband of 59 years, Jim Britt; daughter Lea Ann Shields and her husband Peter; son Robert Britt and his wife Cheryl; son Vance Britt; grandson Joshua Britt and his wife Grace and their daughter Adeline; grandson Jacob Shields; grandson Ryan Britt and wife Claire; granddaughter Hannah Britt; grandson Mason Britt; sister Lesa McCann and her husband, David, and their children Ryan and Shelley.

A visitation with family and friends will be held Wednesday, September 4, at Blair-Stubbs Funeral Home in Mexia, TX from 5:00 – 7:00 PM. Patsy’s funeral service will be held at the Coolidge Cemetery on Thursday, September 5, at 10:00 AM. A Celebration of Life will be held at First Colony Church of Christ in Sugar Land, TX on Sunday, September 8th, at 2:00 PM.
