Peggy Sue (Susie) Grizzard a loving wife, mother and grandmother passed away peacefully on June 4, 2020 at the age of 85 with her daughters by her side.
Susie was born to Jess Ambrose and Mary Grace Bell on April 13, 1935 in Wortham, Texas; she had one younger sister Mary Louise, they lived a very simple life.
It’s hard to say goodbye. While we know she is a peace and that her struggles are at an end there is pain and sadness. But even though she is gone she has left the legacy of her love.
One of the most important things in Susie’s life was gardening. Gardeners are special people. There is a peacefulness that comes over us as we care for and nurture the flowers and plants of our garden.
At the start of her 7th grade school year as Henry stepped off the school bus, Susie met her sweetheart and together they lived a charmed life for 65 years. He was the Football Captain and she the Head Cheerleader for Wortham High School. Together they forged a relationship that would last a lifetime as husband and wife. They married in 1955 and had 2 daughters. Susie’s maternal nature was the foundation of their life together, she was always looking out for her husband and children. Being with her family was what Susie enjoyed the most. What a wonderful lesson she gave us all. Keep your priorities straight. Keep what is most important in focus. Love and care for your family and let them know in all the ways that you can show them that you love them. What can be more important than showing your love for your family?
Susie had the eye of a painter and could turn a room into a masterpiece of color and charm, she had the magic touch as well when it came to loving her family an friends. Susie kept her beauty and vigor till the very end with her beautiful clothing and jewelry. She has left a mark on all of us with her beauty and sweet spirit.
Susie is survived by her daughters, Mary Kim Villalpando and husband Xavier Villalpando of Katy, TX, Alisa Kay Barnes and Husband Paul Barnes of Leander, TX. Her grandchildren Carey Brice Calabrese, Trey Barnes, Megan Nicole Barnes, Amber Alexis Villalpando and Nicholas Dale Barnes.
Funeral services will be 10:00 A.M. Monday, June 8, 2020 at the Blair-Stubbs Funeral Home in Mexia with Rev. Chris Rowe officiating. Graveside services will follow at the Wortham cemetery.
