Before going on to be a millwright, for various power plant companies for approximately 14 years and lived in four different states. He moved his family to Mexia, Texas in 1983 to take care of his mother, Charlsie Lassetter. At that time, he was employed by Mexia State School working in the security department and then became the supervisor working for the State for four and one half years. Then he went on to become the only route salesman for Huse Country Meats. This is when Randy decided to go into business for himself. He was owner of the Mini Stop at Lake Mexia working many hours and making many friends. He purchased the building across Highway 84 and opened the Rockin' "L" Restaurant. He then purchased the Falcon Club in 1992 and started "Tri County Sales" in 1993. Randy believed in giving and supporting the local and surrounding communities whether purchasing animals from FFA auctions or making donations for school extracurricular activities. A neighbor's house caught on fire in 1990 while he was working at the Mini Stop and they had to wait for the fire truck to leave Mexia and locate the burning house. By the time they arrived, the house was engulfed in flames. This incident is what ignited a "fire" in him to have a volunteer fire department at Lake Mexia. He started having meetings in his home with a group of people that lived around the lake to start the ground work. He made numerous trips to Austin, to get this established, working with other volunteer fire departments and the forestry service to purchase equipment. One of his favorite fundraisers for the VFD was the "Outlaw Fishing Tournament." This was an annual event for three years while he presided over the department. This was a family oriented event giving away prizes for children and adults. He also established the one dollar voluntary donation fund that is included in the Bistone District water bill. The last contribution he made to the VFD was to have the land and brick donated to they could have a fire house. In 1993 he became an independent car dealer and did so for ten years until his passing. He purchased automobiles at numerous auctions and made just as many friends. He was well liked and respected by all in this field. One of his favorite sayings was "don't cry for me when I die because I have lived." Preceding him in death is his father, James Lester Poe.
