Ray Augustus Steele, 83, of Mexia passed away March 15, 2010 in Dallas. Funeral services will be 10 AM, Wednesday, March 17, 2010 at Blair-Stubbs Chapel with Minister Mike Clements officiating. Interment will be in the Mexia Cemetery. Ray was born to Edward E. and Mary N. (Richmond) Steele in Streetman, Texas on February 14, 1927. He retired after 32 years of service as a heavy equipment operator for Burlington Rock Island Railroad. Ray served his country during World War II in the U. S. Army. He was a very loving and devoted father and grandfather. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 57 years, Georgia M. (Fisher) Steele; grandson, Ricky Steele; brothers, David F. Steele, Edward L. Steele, Willie R. Steele, Sr., and Charles Steele; and sisters, Mrs. Tommie Shipley and Emily Lee. Ray is survived by his daughters, Debra Hays and husband, Paul and Sue Whisler and husband, Jess all of Mexia; son, George R. Steele and wife, Fay of Beaumont; grandchildren, Lynn Millisor, John Paul Matthews, Melissa Deichler, Philip Steele, Charlie Hays, Traver and Javier Steele; seven great-grandchildren; and sister, Annie Lou Bonner of Fairfield. Pallbearers will be Jess Whisler, Paul Barrett, James Deichler, Chuck Millisor, John Paul Matthews and John Henry Fisher.
