Raymond Joseph "Ray" Halliburton, 81, of Mexia passed away June 22, 2013 at his home at Lake Mexia. Funeral services will be 6:00 PM, Tuesday, June 25, 2013 at Blair-Stubbs Chapel with Rev. Michael Vestal and Rev. David Hutchason officiating. Interment will follow in the Mexia Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be 5-7 p.m., Monday at the funeral home. Ray was born March 26, 1932 in Des Moines, Iowa to Thomas Raymond and Mary Curtis Lusby Halliburton. He retired from Montgomery Ward after 26 years as a Supervisor. He graduated from Kansas State University with a degree in Business. He was also an Honorary Business Professor of Baylor University in Waco. Ray proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. On January 20, 1982, he married Norman Jean Pratt. Ray was currently serving as Commander of the Wilbur A. Harrison American Legion Post 238 in Teague. He served on the Mexia State Supported Living Center Volunteer Council where he was honored as "Volunteer of the Year" in 2011. He was also a member of Friends of the Library and a volunteer at Caritas. His love for God, his family and country was evident in the way he lived his life. Volunteering, serving and helping people best describes Ray Halliburton's goal in life; and he was successful. Ray attended Temple Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Thomas and William Halliburton. Ray is survived by his loving wife, Jean Halliburton of Mexia; daughters, Sharene Gage and husband, Mark of Knoxville, TN, Patricia Chavis and husband, Keith of Cookville, TN and Cathy Marks and husband, Craig of Bedford, TX; daughter-in-law, Mandy Allen of Bedford, TX; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Members of American Legion Post 238 will serve as pallbearers. Memorials may be made to the Temple Baptist Church, 719 S. Red River, Mexia, TX 76667.
