Huge shoes to fill left vacant with the passing of one of Coolidge's finest, Reagan Dean Jacobs. Reagan, 51, passed away Saturday, June 7, 2014 at his home. He was an active citizen of Coolidge for forty-two years. Reagan was born in Palestine, Texas on September 7, 1962. He is the son of Bobby and Pat Jacobs of Coolidge. He married Janet Gilliam, of Teague, on December 14, 2013 in Coolidge. Reagan was a family man. He was a loving and devoted father to his children, Drew, Sammie and Gabi. He enjoyed watching his girls play basketball, volleyball, track and softball and feeding cows with Drew. Together, they loved to fish, show livestock at the local county show and cooking. He enjoyed fishing, family gatherings, playing "42" every chance he got, and growing vegetables, with much success, in his garden. Reagan was a well-educated and professional man. He graduated from Coolidge High School, Class of 1982. He achieved a Bachelors of Science in Agriculture Education from Sam Houston State University in 1985 and a Masters of Arts in Organizational Management from Ashford University in 2012. Aside from being a business man most of his life, he was employed as the Director of Vocational Education at the Mexia State Supported Living Center in Mexia, Texas. He was employed by MSSLC for over thirty years. Among his many achievements while there, he completed the Building the Bench Program and was designated as a Certified Management Professional in 2011. Reagan was set to retire from MSSLC later this month. He was sworn in as mayor of Coolidge on May 13, 2014. Prior to that, he served as mayor pro-tem from 1997 to 2008. He served on the Coolidge City Council from 1993-1997. He also served as State President of the Texas Young Farmers Association in 2008, and a member of the association for many years. He was a leader, teacher, coach, mentor, and provider to anyone who knew him. He was diligent in taking care of his parents the last few months. They, Bobby and Pat, were his pillars of strength and guidance throughout his life. He was a member of the Coolidge First United Methodist Church in Coolidge, Texas. Left to mourn is his wife, Janet Gillam Jacobs of Coolidge; children, Andrew Scott Jacobs, Samantha Jo Jacobs and Gabriella Rivera Jacobs; stepsons, Bradlee David LaFoy and Coalton Shea LaFoy of Coolidge; parents, Bobby and Pat Jacobs of Coolidge; sisters, Annette Jacobs Davis and husband, Gary of Coolidge and Debbie Sue Jacobs Nash and husband, Lynn of Coolidge; twin brother, Randall Gene Jacobs and Christi Hunter of Coolidge; and a large number of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and other family members. Visitation with the family will be Monday, June 9th from 6-8 p.m. at Blair-Stubbs in Mexia, Texas. Funeral services will be Tuesday, June 10th at 3:00 p.m. at the Coolidge High School Auditorium in Coolidge, Texas. Pallbearers will be Heath Allcorn, C. L. Bostian, Bradley Bruckner, Ricky Davis, Bradlee LaFoy and Jeff Nash. Honorary pallbearers will be Coalton LaFoy, Randy Rogers and Clyde Woodard. Memorials may be made to the Coolidge ISD.
