Rev. Billy Gene Thompson

Reverend Billy Gene Thompson went to be with his Lord and Savior on December 23, 2021 at the age of 93. He passed away in the early morning hours at The Manor Care Center, in Mexia, where he had been a resident for the past 5 ½ years.

Reverend Thompson was born November 11, 1928 in Reed, Oklahoma to Joseph C. and Myra Jane (Pruitt) Thompson. He had resided in Mexia for the past 61 years. Reverend Thompson dedicated his life to serving the Lord and helping others. Prior to retirement, Reverend Thompson spent many years as Pastor of various churches throughout Texas, was a supervisor retiree of the Mexia State School, and a carpenter.

Reverend Thompson was blessed with a loving family of three children and numerous grand, great grand and great-great grandchildren, all of whom will greatly miss him, but are comforted in knowing he is in his eternal home. “He will forever be in our hearts as we all look forward to being together again”.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Myra Thompson; wives, Lula Mae Thompson (25 years) and Georgia B. Thompson (38 Years); brother, James D. Thompson; sister, Jo Ann Thompson; son-in-law, Will Reddoch; and step daughter, Carol Jones.

Reverend Thompson is survived by his three children, Brenda Reddoch of Mexia; sons, Terry Thompson and wife, Betty of Temple and Jeffery L. Thompson and wife, Jeannie of Emory; ten grandchildren; two step grandchildren; 30 great grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren.

Reverend Thompson’s family would like to express their deepest appreciation for all the acts of love and kindness shown to them during this difficult time. The family would also like to thank all of the staff and employees of The Manor Care Center for their loving care shown during his time with them.

A private service was held in the Mexia Cemetery in December. There will be a Celebration of Life service will be held at a later date (TBA), due to the pandemic.
