Robert Ralph "Bob" Jorda, 89, formerly of Mexia, passed away Sunday May 8, 2016 in Hewitt, Texas. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, May 12, 2016 in the Mexia Cemetery with Rev. Marcus Sheffield officiating. Pallbearers will be David Wren, Terry Proctor, Duane Cripe, Payton Wren, Erik Dearing and Tyler Castro. Visitation with the family will be from 6-8 p.m., Wednesday, May 11, 2016 at Blair-Stubbs Funeral Home. Bob was born in Waco, Texas on July 28, 1926 to Albert Laron "Dutch" and Velma Kelly Jorda. They moved to Mexia when he was three years of age, where Bob grew up and attended Mexia schools, graduating MHS in the class of 1943. Bob was proud of his hometown and as he grew older, loved to reminiscence with friends, and others, about the history of Mexia. After, high school, he proudly served his country during World War II in the U.S. Navy and, later, entered the U.S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict. After completing these tours, he married Billie Denton on December 18, 1954 and they were blessed with three daughters, Kelly, Leigh Ann and Robbie. Bob's working career spanned many years. He began, as a young boy, working for the Mexia Daily news delivering newspapers and eventually became an assistant editor. He later became the Personnel Director of the Mexia State School, retiring after 24 years of service. Bob was active in many civic activities. He was a longtime active member of the Mexia Rotary Club. He served as club secretary/treasurer (for many years), past president and was a Paul Harris Fellow. He was a longtime active member of the First Christian Church in Mexia. Bob's love for the Lord, his family and others was evident in the way he lived his life. He was always friendly and greeted everyone with a smile. He a former student and loyal fan of the University of Texas. He was preceded in death by his parents. Bob is survived by his wife of 61 years, Billie Jorda of Woodway; daughters, Kelly Wren and husband, David of Riesel, Leigh Ann Proctor and husband,Terry of Austin and Robbie Cripe and husband, Duane of Austin; grandchildren, Jessica Dearing and husband, Erik, Payton Wren and wife, Brianna, Rachel Castro and husband, Tyler, Megan Proctor, Laura Cripe and Amanda Cripe; great-grandchildren, Jake Dearing, Rowdy Wren, Cayden Castro, Christian Dearing and Cassidy Briggs.
