Robert Donald Stevens, 80, of Cedar Island passed away October 13, 2009 in Mexia. Funeral services will be 2 PM, Friday, October 16, 2009 at Blair-Stubbs Chapel. Rev. James Rincker and Rev. Harvey Hallmark will officiate with interment to follow in the Point Enterprise Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be 6-8 PM Thursday at Blair-Stubbs Funeral Home. Robert was born June 30, 1929 in Cedar Island, Texas to Robert Roy and Dora Mae (Williams) Stevens. He worked on a pipeline in New Mexico, for ABCO Furniture Factory for many years and retired, May 1990, from the Mexia State School after 20 years of service. Robert was an avid gardener and farmer, this was his passion. He took great pride in his crops and gardening skills. He, also, loved to hunt and fish in his spare time and loved to spend time with family and friends visiting and telling stories. Robert was a member of the First Pentecostal Church of God. He loved the Lord, his church and especially enjoyed live gospel music. Robert served his country in the U. S. Army during World War II. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Jimmy Stevens, Joe Stevens and John David Stevens and wife, Ruth; and sister, Annie Ruth Meredith and husband, Cecil. Robert is survived by four sisters, Betty White and husband, Butch of Mexia, Mary Emma Wofford and husband, Reagan of Henderson, Alice Isabelle Walker of Frankston and Robbie Marie Reinhard of Denison; also, a very special lady in his life, Sallie Ann Sallas of Mexia; a special great nephew, Garrett Ferguson; and numerous nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be Ronnie Jones, David Bates, Tim Newell, Guy Campbell, Gordon Campbell, Heath Campbell and Bruce Wofford.
