Robert D. Talley, known as Bob and Deday to his friends and family, passed away peacefully Thursday, February 8, 2018, surrounded by his family at his home in Mexia, TX after a long battle with congestive heart failure. He was born on February 16, 1935 in Bonham, TX to Russell and Ione Talley. Bob was the owner of Talley Chemical and Supply for over 30 years in Mexia, TX. He gave back to the community with involvement in Mexia Rotary Club, Mexia Economic Development Corporation, and Gibbs Memorial Library Board. He was twice selected as Mexia Citizen of the Year. You could find him each morning at Whataburger enjoying coffee and conversation with his numerous friends. Bob had deep faith and a lifelong devotion to First Baptist Church Mexia. He served as a deacon, a Sunday school teacher, church treasurer, and various roles on committees within the church. He was always willing to do whatever was needed to help the church, from driving a van on youth group trips to playing roles in the church Easter pageant. He gave of his time, his money, and his talents faithfully. His love for God and his church were passed to his children and grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 59 years, Veneta Gatlin Talley, his parents, and infant daughter Kathy Talley. He is survived by his devoted wife, Ann Patton Talley, of 3 years; beloved daughters Susan Miller and husband Randy, and Sheryl Sheffield and husband Marcus; grandchildren Jeremy Miller of College Station, Erin and Justin Cox of Mexia, Colby Sheffield of Mart, and Jordan Sheffield of Austin; great-grandchildren Jackson and Lexi Sheffield and Trevor, Tyson, and Tanner Cox; brother Richard Talley of Mesquite, TX; aunt Rita Talley of Waco, TX; niece Traci Allen and husband Glen of Mesquite, TX; cousin Becky Goss and husband Bill of Bonham, TX; sister-in-law JoAnn Lipscomb and husband Jack of Bonham, TX; brother-in-law Rick Gatlin of Bonham, TX; nephews Chris Lipscomb and wife Courtney of Driftwood, TX and Chad Lipscomb and wife Christine of Bonham, TX; step-daughter Stacey Shields and husband Andy of Magnolia, TX; step grandchildren Justin, Kelly, Chloe, and Rachael Nicholas; and special friend Shelly Wright. Funeral services will be 2 PM, Saturday, February10, 2018 at First Baptist Church with Rev. Marcus Sheffield officiating. Interment will follow in the Mexia Cemetery. Jeremy Miller, Colby Sheffield, Jordan Sheffield, Justin Cox, Chris Lipscomb and Chad Lipscomb will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be George Tidwell, Mike Cain, Rick Sadler, Dave Chilcoat, Michael Miller, Gary McKinney and Greg Stubbs. Visitation with the family will be 5-7 PM, Friday, at Blair-Stubbs Funeral Home.
