Russell Gene Hawkins, 88, passed away on May 2, 2022 in Mexia. He was born on February 20, 1934 in Pierre, South Dakota to Claude Reed and Ester (Hansen) Hawkins.
While Russell served his country as a member of the US Army, he was also involved in a construction project for the US Air Force. His working career span many years as an Operating Engineer in road construction for a company in San Diego, California. Russell's wife has just received his 55 years service pin from International Union of Operating Engineers Southern California, California Union #12.
After retiring, he and his wife, Dianna, moved to Mexia, Texas where they soon joined the First Baptist Church. Russell became very active in many activities; he thoroughly enjoyed being an active participant in the church. His favorite hobby was making rockers, swings, and all types of outdoor wood furniture.
Russell was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. His love for the Lord and family was his priority in life.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Claude and Ester Hawkins; son, Robert Harrig; sister, Shirley; and brother, Merlin.
Russell is survived by his loving wife, Dianna; children, Claude Bradley Hawkins, Leila Jean Trigo, Merlina Saum, and Kimberly Wynne; 13 grandchildren; six great grandchildren; and sister, Beverly Davis.
