Funeral services for Santiago G. Acevedo, 72 of Red Oak will be Monday, June 2, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. at Glad Tidings Church in Mexia. Rev. Max Rosas, Rev. David Bolden and Rev. David Johnston will officiate with interment to follow in the Mexia Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be 4:00 - 6:00 p.m. Sunday at Blair-Stubbs Funeral Home. Mr. Acevedo was born to Manuel Acevedo and Maria Eligia Gonzales Acevedo in McAllen, Texas on July 2, 1935. He was a Pastor of the Assemblies of God having been called to the ministry in 1970 and retired in 1999. He received his Pastoral Certification from the Assemblies of God in 1974 and had been a professional musician of Christian Music since 1955. He, also, retired from the City of Bryan after 12 years of employment. While living in Mexia, he served as a Foster Grandparent for the Mexia State School for 5 years. He is survived by his wife, Sara; children, Maria Delaluz Garcia of Red Oak, Fabian Acevedo of Orange Park, Florida, Maria Eligia Grant of Waxahachie and Saul Acevedo of Hilliard, Florida; 12 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and a son, Santiago Acevedo, Jr. Pallbearers will be Joe Garcia, Jeff Grant, David Starks, Jr., Jeffrey Grant, Jr. and Mateo Flores, Fabian Acevedo and Saul Acevedo.
