Sara Y. Acevedo

Sara Y. Acevedo, 87, was born in Pharr, Texas on January 30, 1937 to Librado and Francisca Ybanez.   She passed away on February 8, 2024.   She was preceded in death by her husband, Santiago Acevedo and her son, Santiago, Jr. (Jimmy).

Sara married Santiago Acevedo on March 13, 1955, and they had the opportunity to celebrate 52 wonderful years of marriage.  She was brought up in the ministry where her parents served as pastors in South Texas for the Assemblies of God.  She also became a Pastor’s wife and helped her husband for several years serving the community of Bryan, Texas reaching souls for Christ.  In her later years, she moved to Red Oak and attended Highland Meadows Assembly of God until she moved to a Senior Living Community in Waxahachie.   She enjoyed sharing her testimony of God’s faithfulness to the residents where she lived.

Sara enjoyed working for Bryan Independent School District where she retired on May 28, 1999, after serving the school district for 22 years.  She also enjoyed, along with her husband, serving as part of the Senior Corps Foster Grandparents for the Mexia State School, where their son, Jimmy, lived.   She served the MSS Foster Grandparent Program for a loyal 5 years.  

Sara is survived by two daughters, Maria D. Garcia and husband, Joe and Maria E. Grant and husband, Jeff; two sons, Fabian Acevedo and wife, Brenda and Saul Acevedo and wife, Laurie; 12 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews from both the Ybanez and Acevedo families.

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m., Thursday, February 15, 2024 at Blair-Stubbs Funeral Home with Pastor Joel Flores and Pastor David Johnston officiating. Visitation with the family will be prior to the service beginning at 10:00 a.m.   Interment will follow in the Mexia Cemetery.  Jeffery Grant, Ethan Starks, Ian Starks, Ryan Acevedo, Levi Wiggins, and Jeff Sr. Grant will serve as pallbearers.
