Sue Ridge of Wortham, Texas passed away November 13, 2022, at Skilled Care of Mexia.
She was born March 19, 1941, at home near Groesbeck Texas in Limestone County, to Willie Garth Towers and Claudia Murlene Towers.
Sue graduated from Groesbeck High School and shortly thereafter met and married the love of her life, Feller Ridge. Together they raised two children, Vickie and Rickey. Sue was instrumental in the successful operation of their family-owned contracting company for more than thirty years.
Her grandchildren and great grandchildren meant so much to her. She was known as Granny to them as well as several of their friends. They all loved Granny even though she had the reputation of keeping them in line!
Sue had a wide variety of interests throughout her life. One of her favorite hobbies was gardening. She could grow anything and was known for her famous homemade Granny Pickles among family and friends. She was a talented artist who loved painting and photography. Her favorite subjects were wildflowers, old barns, and wildlife.
Sue really enjoyed fishing and hunting with her family, as well as collecting Indian arrowheads and old cork bottles from various lands and creeks. She enjoyed any of her family gatherings that included good food and games, and she was known to play a few games of Dominos and 42 in her day!
She was well known in her hometown for her award-winning pies. She always looked forward to making them every year for the Wortham Volunteer Fire Department to help them raise money at their yearly auction.
She is survived by her son Rickey Ridge and wife Kristi. She is also survived by four grandchildren: Trent Ridge and wife Miranda, Blake Ridge and wife Sophie, Cole Ridge and wife Kristie, and Ketch Weaver; and four great grandchildren: Dean Beckett-Ridge, Kaylie Ridge, Kyler Ridge, Kodi Ann Weaver, and Kora Weaver. She is also survived by her brothers; Joe Towers and Sandra Beil, Jim Towers, Jeffrey and Darleen Towers, and sister Pricsilla Holmes; and several nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Ridge was preceded in death by her husband, JR Ridge, daughter, Vickie Ridge Weaver, grandson, Christopher Ridge, parents Willy Garth and Claudia Towers, and sister Jean Neason.
The family would like to thank the amazing staffs at Reliant Hospice and Skilled Care of Mexia for their love and care.
