Shirley Ann Weaver

Shirley Ann Bosley Weaver of Wortham, Texas died peacefully at her home, Weaver Ranch, on January 24, 2025 at the age of 90.

Shirley was born July 30, 1934, in Houston, TX, to Rod and Minnie (Bennett) Bosley. As a child she and her mom moved to Kerrville in the Texas Hill Country because of her asthma. They later returned to Pisgah Ridge in the Wortham area. In high school, Shirley met the love of her life, a long, tall, Texas cowboy, Ted Weaver. They were married and she instantly became a part of the family ranch established in 1874. Shirley embraced the cowboy way and became a great ranch hand. Although she has had numerous qualifications to the Women’s Professional Rodeo Association finals and plenty of victories with her husband in local rodeos, she deserves the title of best supporting “person!” She has run a summer camp for girls, bed and breakfast for foreign travelers, a country store mail order catalog, headed a log home business, and managed a property at the Canton First Monday Trade Days, all while tending to normal ranch wife chores. She is the eternal cheerleader with her quiet voice and long Texas Drawl, always supporting her family and friends. Known in the community for her fried apple pies and tea cakes, the lines were long at the cook shack at rodeos and events produced at Weaver Ranch Arena. She has ridden in a wagon train across Texas celebrating the sesquicentennial and taken care of cattle in the dusty Wilderness of the San Juan mountains in northern New Mexico. Just recently she has authored a book of poetry about her life experiences.

Shirley loved antiques, blue bonnets, chuckwagons and the western way of life, but most of all she loved being a wife, mama, and Memaw, watching wild cow milking, trick roping, trick riding, stock shows and anything her grands were involved in!

Shirley didn’t want us to be sad. Like she always said, “It’s times like this that build character!”

She was preceded in death by her father Rod Bosley, mother Minnie Bosley, husband Ted Augustus Weaver, son Ted (Teddy) Augustus Weaver II, Sisters Lois King and Minnie Tommi Supak.

Shirley is survived by her grandsons Ketch Weaver of Wortham and Cole Ridge and wife, Kristie of Fairfield; and great grandchildren, Kaylie Ridge, Kyler Ridge, Kodi Ann Weaver and Kora Augustus Weaver.

Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m., at the Weaver ranch near Wortham on Monday, January 27, 2024.
