Sonia Kendall

Mrs. Sonia Lee Kendall, 86, of Mexia, passed away peacefully October 28, 2019 with her family by her side.

Mrs. Kendall was born June 8, 1933 in Fox, Oklahoma to Isaac and Evie Randolph Wright. She graduated from Fox High School. She married Joe Lee Kendall in 1954 and they enjoyed many happy years together prior to his passing in 1996. She loved horses and, while living in Speegleville, they enjoyed going on trail rides. She also served as president and secretary of the Speegleville Saddle Club. Moving to Mexia in 1967, due to Joe's job transfer with Lone Star Gas Co, Sonia put her love for kids to good use by becoming an employee of the Mexia ISD, a job where she spent over 30 years. The Kendall's were longtime active members of the First United Methodist Church in Mexia.

Their son, Kent was her pride and joy, only to be outdone when granddaughter Caroline came along.

Having an outgoing personality, Sonia greeted everyone with a big smile, a friendly hello and just always appeared to be happy.

Mrs. Kendall was preceded in death by her parents, husband; and siblings, Myrtle Inez Wright Stepp, Bonnie Jo Wright Rowden, Martin Gene Wright, Donald Alexander Wright, Maudie Louise Wright Matheson and Billy LeRoy Wright.

Survivors include her son, Kent Kendall, granddaughter, Caroline Kendall, siblings, Eddie Glen Wright and wife Jimi, Patsy June Wright Myers and husband Clifford, Danny Royce Wright and wife Beverly and Myrna Ruth Wright Chapman and husband Skeet. Nieces, Connie Stamps and Carol Burr and husband Rick Burr.

Funeral services will be 10:30 AM Friday, November 1, 2019, at the First United Methodist Church in Mexia with the Reverend Brad Brittain officiating. Interment will follow in the Chapel Hill Memorial Park in Hewitt. Pallbearers will be Walt Harrison, Brett Beene, Lloyd "Sonny" Yelverton, Skeet Chapman, Grayson Williams, Chris Irons and Kyle Hancock. Honorary Pallbearers will be Rick Burr, Dwayne Walters and Adam Burr.

Visitation with the family will be one hour prior to the service at the Church.
