Stephen Lee Coffey (Cappy), was born on May 26, 1949, in Kansas City, Missouri. He left this world on March 18, 2011, in his home at Lake Mexia after battling cancer. He was surrounded by family, friends and loved ones during his final days. Steve was preceded in death by his Father, Kendall Lee Coffey. He is survived by his loving wife, Diane Forrest Coffey (Marty), and his mother, Doris Coffey. He raised 4 children, Genny Lawson, Jason Coffey, Jessica Staggs, and Jodie Maki, who will all carry on the morals and values he instilled in them. He was also survived by 2 son-in-laws, Kent Lawson and Erik Maki and 1 daughter-in-law, Jamie Coffey. Cappy, as he was referred to by his loved ones, also had 8 adoring grandchildren, Blake Walker (16) of Fairfield, Brady Walker (15) of Mexia, Jason Lee Coffey Jr. (12) of Mexia, Maddie Coffey (10) of Mexia, Kori Staggs (7) of Teague, Nolan Maki (6) of Mexia, Nathan Maki (4) of Mexia and Kinley Staggs (4) of Teague. He was also survived by a sister, Karen Ross of Waco. There were 17 members of Cappy's immediate family, and gatherings were a constant, at least weekly he was surrounded by the ones he loved. His hobbies consisted of camping with his family, exploring with his grandkids, searching for fossils and artifacts with friends and family, going on hunting trips with his grandsons, and he was an avid craftsman. He shared his knowledge, his findings, and his skills, with everyone around him. Steve served in the United States Navy for 4 years. He retired from Southwestern Bell in 1996. He was a loving, wonderful husband father and grandfather, who will be dearly missed . Cappy asked that any memorials that may be given, be given in his name to the American Cancer Society. Services will be held at First United Methodist Church, Sunday, March 20, 2011 at 2:00 PM. Visitation with the family will be 5-7 pm Saturday at the funeral home. Pallbearers will be Bud Lawson, Brady Walker, Blake Walker, Bill McCullough, Ronnie Carroll and Bubba Walker.
