Mr. Calvin King "Tad" Burroughs, 93, of Mexia, passed away on January 3, 2012, in Weatherford, Texas, following hip surgery. He was born in Conway, South Carolina on March 16, 1918 to Anthony Augustus and Macie King Burroughs. He is survived by his wife of more than 59 years, Ima Lucille Rosson Burroughs; son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Vicki Burroughs of San Antonio, and daughter and son-in-law, Emily and David Prowell of Weatherford; also, by three grandchildren, Normand Burroughs and wife Catherine, Benjamin Prowell and wife Jarryn, and Sarah Davis and husband Alex, and by three great-grandchildren, Alexandra Burroughs and Emberly and Hudson Prowell; and by many cousins, nieces, and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents and his three brothers and four sisters. A veteran of World War II, Mr. Burroughs served in the United States Army from August, 1941 through October, 1945, with duty in Wyoming, Texas, France, Belgium, and Germany, attaining the rank of corporal. His military awards and decorations included the European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with two bronze battle stars and the Combat Infantry Badge. Following the war, he settled in Texas, where he worked for the Southern Pacific Railroad for more than 30 years and sold real estate. Family and friends will remember Tad as a loving husband, father, and grandfather; a faithful church member; a portrait artist; and a musician. Blair-Stubbs Funeral Home will be in charge of the services, which will be 11AM, Saturday, January 7, 2012 at First United Methodist Church in Mexia with the Rev. JW Sellers and Rev. Brad Britain officiating. Interment will follow in the Mexia Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be 6-7:30 p.m., Friday at the funeral home.
