Terry Carson

Terry Hunt Carson, 64, of Mexia, Texas died on Wednesday, May 14, 2013 at the Mexia LTC Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. He was born May 27, 1948 in St. Louis, Missouri to Ed and Sue Carson. He married Cathy A. Van Buren on June 27, 1994. He is survived by hiswife, Cathy Carson of Mexia; daughter, Cara Ann Carson and fiancé Ian Blong; grandson and namesake, Carson William Blong of Berkeley, California; nephew, Cleighton Carson of Florida; aunt, Margaret Sonneday of St. Louis Missouri; sister-in-law, Debbie Smith; and nieces, Tiera Avila, Aphie Smith and Iris Smith all of Florida. Terry's parents Ed and Sue Carson and one brother, Michael Carson along with his godfather, Stan "The Man" Musial preceded him in death. He also leaves behind his "Band of Brothers" Willie, John, Dale, Danny, Zeke and Keith who spent many summers in Montana fishing and giving each other love and support throughout his life time. As the great-great-nephew of the first Governor of Arizona and Minister to Siam, George W.P. "Goody". Hunt, Mr. Carson became a long time resident of Phoenix, Arizona after leaving his childhood home in St. Louis. He attended Arizona State University on a full scholarship in baseball while receiving his Bachelors, Master and Ph'd in Education. He fell in love with the "Valley of the Sun" and remained in Phoenix Arizona for the next 40 years. "Mr. Terry", as his classroom children called him after being nominated and voted "Most Favorite Teacher" year after year, loved teaching and watching young minds grow and expand. He was a dedicated teacher of 27 years in the Arizona public school system. His legacy will always be felt by past and future children while visiting the "Mr. Terry Nature Center" that was established at Richard E. Miller Elementary in honor of his life time achievements in teaching. Arizona also saw Terry find his greatest happiness and joy when he met and married "his favorite girl," Cathy and together they raised their beloved daughter, Cara which he always referred to as his biggest accomplishment in life, his family. Terry loved the St. Louis Cardinals and was an avid golfer and sports enthusiast. After moving to Mexia, Texas in the summer of 2009, Terry found tremendous comfort and a new place to display his love of poetry and pranks on his extended family. They include; Warner and Jodi Hancock, Joey and Lisa Cherry (sister-in-law), James and Donna Feverston (sister-in-law), Terry and Samantha Hagen (sister-in-law) along with his nephews, Jake Cherry, Trenton Dean Feverston, Cooper and Trendon Hagen and Dusty Newsom and great nephews, Terry Richard Reel III, and Brayden Newsom, also two nieces, Jennifer Newsom and Amber McCullough all of Mexia, Texas. The family would like to acknowledge and thank the following people and facilities for the love, care, passion and concern given to "Mr. Terry" during his illness: Dr. Sharon Hale and the Wortham Medical Clinic, Mexia LTC Nursing and Rehabilitation Center and staff, a special thank you to Scott and White Hospice team and his special friend and caregiver, Glenn. The visitation is from 10:00 AM until 12:00 PM on Saturday, May 18, 2013 at Blair-Stubbs Funeral Home. Funeral services will be 3:00 PM on Sunday, May 19, 2013 at Blair-Stubbs Chapel with the Reverend Brad Brittain officiating. Interment will take place in St. Louis, Missouri.
