Thelma Clara (York) Davis, 92, passed away April 9, 2011 at the Windsor Nursing Home in Groesbeck, Texas, following a brief illness. She had lived with her niece in Mexia, Texas since hurricane Ike. She was born January 11, 1919 in Saddle Mountain, Oklahoma to Luther and Dora Ruth (Poer) York. She was raised in Goldthwaite, Texas. In her early 20's, the family moved to Galveston, TX. She married John Wharton Davis on July 22, 1947. They lived in Galveston until the 1950's, and then moved to Texas City, TX. They had no children. Clara worked 46 � years for American National Insurance Company. After retiring, she enjoyed traveling. She was preceded in death by her husband, John; parents, Luther and Ruth York; brother, Ray; sister, Doris; in-laws, Marvin and Georgia Davis, Gloria Davis, Nita Davis Dorothy (DeDe) Donovan and George Davis. Thelma is survived by brother-in-laws, Marvin B. Davis of Texas City and Eugene P. Donovan of Mexia; eight nieces and nephews; 18 great-nieces and nephews; and several great-great-nieces and nephews. Graveside services will be held at 2:30 p.m., Friday, April 15, 2011 at Galveston Memorial Park in Hitchcock, TX. Blair-Stubbs Funeral Home in Mexia is in charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers, the family request memorials be made to the charity of choice.
