Travis Brown

Travis P. Brown, longtime Coolidge resident, passed away on July 29, 2016 in Lufkin, Texas at the age of 97. Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m., Monday, August 1, 2016 at the First Baptist Church in Coolidge with Rev. Fred Sain and Rev. Chuck Sturgeon officiating. Interment will follow in the Coolidge Cemetery. Kevin Brown, Erik Brown, Ken Pollard, Glen Hullum, Larry Stafford and Daylon Crye will serve as pallbearers. Visitation with the family will be 5-7 p.m., Sunday, at Blair-Stubbs Funeral Home. Travis was born in Delia, Texas on November 23, 1918 to Earl and Laura Burke Brown. He retired from General Tire Company in Waco, after 24 years of service in the truck tire department. He was also a farmer and rancher. During WW II, he proudly served his country in the U.S. Army, 96th Division. He was a medic in the 321st Medical Battalion and the recipient of the Bronze Star Award in Okinawa. On July 1, 1944, Travis married the love of his life, Sybil Stafford; they were blessed with two sons, Murry and Roland. His love for the Lord, his family and friends was exemplified in the way he lived his life. He looked forward to, and enjoyed, playing 42 with his sons and grandsons, as well as gardening, watching sports and reading the Bible. Travis was a longtime member and Deacon of the First Baptist Church in Coolidge. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Sybil; and brothers, Alvis and Lanham Brown. Travis is survived by his sons, Murray Brown and wife, Kathy and Roland Brown and wife, Debbie all of Lufkin; grandchildren, Kevin and Jessica Brown, Erik and Callie Brown and Emily Leeder; great-grandchildren, Lauren, Austin and Allie Brown, Ella Kate and Cole Brown and Declan and Kaelyn Leeder; sisters-in-law, Emogene Gibson and Dorothy Nell Johnson; and a number of nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Coolidge Cemetery Association, P. O. Box 84, Coolidge, TX 76635.
