Velma Irene "Tump" Asher, 91, of Mexia passed away September 12, 2013 in Mexia. Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m., Monday, September 16, 2013 at Blair-Stubbs Chapel with Rev. James Hooper officiating. Interment will follow in the Shiloh Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be 5-7 p.m., Sunday at Blair-Stubbs Funeral Home. Tump was born January 27, 1922 in Crockett, Texas to Will and Della Brough Chrisner. She worked for several businesses in Mexia prior to owning and operating Trubye Lee's Dress Shop. She married Cecil C. Asher on April 19, 1941 in Mexia. Tump had to learn how to cook when she was very young, due to the death of her mother, and she learned well as she was an excellent cook. Her life revolved around God, her family and friends. She was willing to help anyone, no questions asked nor any complaints. Tump loved getting together with family and friends to play a game of dominoes, forty-two or canasta. Many memories were made at family gatherings, especially those with homemade ice cream and shelling peas. She enjoyed canning vegetables, cooking and sewing. Tump was an active member of Calvary Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband of almost 58 years, Cecil; grandson, Ryan Sterling Doss; father and mother-in-law, Ollie and Ethel Asher; brothers, Curtis, Carl, William "Buster", Ernest and Thomas Chrisner; sisters, Annie Mae Gardner and Jimmie Ellen New. Tump is survived by two daughters, LaVonza Barkouskie and husband, David Beard of Mexia, Carolyn Doss and husband, Bill of Salado; grandchildren, Michael Barkouskie and wife, Stacy of Mexia, Megan Doss of Houston, Lauren D. Harrison and husband, Jon of Houston; great-grandsons, Kevin Barkouskie of Camp Starley, S. Korea and Justin Barkouskie and wife, Dorothy of Mexia; step-great-grandsons, Eric Warren and wife, Karen and Cody Warren all of Mexia; two great-great-granddaughters, Katelynn and Riley Jo Barkouskie of Mexia; sister, Virginia LaRue and husband, Henry of Mexia; sisters-in laws, Velma Chrisner of Mexia and Wilma Mansel of Damon, TX; and numerous nieces, nephews and other family and friends. Pallbearers will be David Beard, Bill Doss, Justin Barkouskie, Michael Barkouskie, Jon Harrison and Joe Ed New. Memorials may be made to the Shiloh Cemetery or Providence Hospice.
