Velma A. Chrisner, 96, of Mexia, Texas, passed away May 26, 2021 at her home. Velma was known to many as "Mama C".

Velma was born one mile south of Donie, Texas at the old May homestead to Milton Field and Minnie Temple Richardson May on March 20, 1925. She graduated from Donie High School in 1942 where she served as senior class.treasurer and was voted "Most Beautiful Girl"

She was married to William E. "Buster" Chrisner on April 14, 1943. They celebrated 60 years of marriage before his death in 2003.

Velma was employed as a PBX operator from 1943 - 1944 at Western Maryland Telephone Company on the base of Camp Richie, Maryland. After Buster was discharged from the service, they made Mexia their home.

Velma loved to work in her yard and plant flowers. She had a green thumb and could get a start of any plant, and it would flourish. She was a great cook and enjoyed family get togethers to fellowship and eat. She was an avid bird watcher, enjoyed spending time with her friends, and birding trips with "The Loons". She was an avid sports fan and, at the end of the day, she could give a detailed account of the plays and scores of every game she watched.  She was blessed with a good mind until the day her Lord called her home.

Velma was preceded in death by her parents, Milton and Minnie May; son, Eddie Chrisner; sister, Edith and husband, Bill Busse; half-sister, Beatrice Page; brother, Rayford and wife, Yvonne May; nephew, Milton Boyd May; niece, Angie Kay May; and granddaughter, Kimberly Chrisner. She is survived by her daughter, Christa and husband, Larry McCeig; daughter-in-law, Linda Chrisner; brother-in-law, Henry Larue; eight grandchildren, Angie and husband, Kenneth Robinson; Brian and wife, Michele Chrisner, Chase Chrisner, Ethan and wife, Cheyenne Lansford, Amy Lansford, Valerie McCeig, Melissa and husband, Greg Crenshaw, Kristi and husband, Ryan Lewison; nine great grandchildren; Sloan Harris, Katie Chrisner, Kash Brown, Lelani Chrisner, Garrett Chrisner, Ben Crenshaw, Caitlyn Crenshaw, Alyssa Ezell and Devyn May; nieces, Marilyn Busse, Lavonza Barkouskie, Linda Harper, Elaine and husband, Bill Schulte, Carolyn and husband, Bill Doss, Laura May, Aniece Sepulveda, and Martha Chrisner; nephews, Ray Busse, Mark and wife, Georgia May, Jo Ed and wife, Linda New, Bobby and wife, Sue New, Billy Jack Patterson and numerous extended family members and friends.

Visitation will be from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm Friday, May 28, 2021, at Blair-Stubbs Funeral Home in Mexia. Funeral Services will be held Saturday, May 29, 2021, at 11:00 am at the Calvary Baptist Church in Mexia, with Pastor Marcus Sheffield officiating. Burial will follow in the Point Enterprise Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Brian Chrisner, Chase Chrisner, Kenneth Robinson, Ethan Lansford, Greg Crenshaw, Mark May, Chase Walters, and Larry McCeig. Honorary pallbearers will be Billy Jack Patterson, John Tacker, Jo Ed New, Bobby New, David Beard, and Bill Doss.

The family would like to express their appreciation to Providence Hospice and her caregivers for the care provided.
