Veneta Talley

Veneta Gatlin Talley left this world to join loved ones in eternity on Tuesday, July 2, 2013, after complications from bypass surgery. Funeral services will be 2PM, Friday, July 5, 2013 at First Baptist Church with Rev. Marcus Sheffield officiating. Interment will follow in the Mexia Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be from 1:00 p.m. until service time, Friday, at the First Baptist Church. Veneta, or Nini to her family, was a devoted wife, mother and friend to many. She is survived by her loving husband of fifty-nine years, Robert (Bob) Talley; beloved daughters, Susan Miller and husband, Randy and Sheryl Sheffield and husband, Marcus; grandchildren, Jeremy Miller of College Station, TX, Erin and Justin Cox of Victoria, TX, Colby and Sara Sheffield of College Station, TX and Jordan Sheffield of Mexia, TX; great-grandchildren, Jackson and Lexi Sheffield and Trevor and Tyson Cox; sister, Jo Ann Lipscomb and husband, Jack of Bonham, TX; brother, Ricky Gatlin of Bonham, TX; nephews, Chris Lipscomb and wife, Courtney of Driftwood, TX and Chad Lipscomb of Seguin, TX and special friends, Jo Nell Trumble, Shelly Wright and Ryan Reaves. She was preceded in death by her parents, Atlas and Odessa Gatlin and infant daughter, Kathy Talley. Veneta was born in Bonham, Texas on July 21, 1935. She was a paraprofessional at Mexia ISD for 35 years. As a longtime member of First Baptist Church, Veneta loved music and sang in the choir and taught children in Sunday School for many years. She was a faithful member of the Dorcas Sunday School class. Veneta enjoyed her family, her flowers and her projects. She stayed busy creating unique gifts and cards for her loved ones, caring for her house and yard and loving her family. She will be remembered by all who knew her as a woman who selflessly gave to make others happy. Pallbearers will be Jeremy Miller, Colby Sheffield, Jordan Sheffield, Justin Cox, Chris Lipscomb, Chad Lipscomb, Ryan Reaves, Jack Lipscomb and Randy Miller. Honorary pallbearers will be George Tidwell, Gene Trumble, Albert Nabors, Randall Bryan, Gary McKinney, Frank Croft, Rick Sadler and Tommy Tucker.
