Virginia Rae Chatham, of Mexia, passed away March 9, 2017 in Groesbeck at the age of 89. Funeral services will be 2 PM, Sunday, March 12, 2017 at Blair-Stubbs Chapel with Rev. Marcus Sheffield officiating. Interment will follow in the Stranger Cemetery. Erik Addy, Jason Carroll, Michael Krumnow, James Anderson, Micah Anderson and Danny Martinez will serve as pallbearers. Virginia was born August 31, 1927 in San Antonio, Texas to Oliver Lee "Ollie" and Lucy Pearl McBee Hoke. She and her family moved to Mexia on July 4, 1968. She retired in 1992, after 20 years of service, as an Assistant Manager/Loan Officer for the Mexia State School Credit Union. Virginia married James Durwood Chatham in Lubbock, Texas on July 31, 1951; they were blessed with two children, James R. "Randy" and Carol. Her family was her pride and joy; she loved her children but the grandchildren and great-grandchildren truly owned her heart. Fishing was Virginia's favorite pastime but she also enjoyed playing games with her family, cooking and entertaining family and friends. Virginia always had a smile and friendly greeting for everyone she met. Throughout her working career, she made numerous friends through the customers she served at Mexia City Hall and Mexia State School Credit Union, as well as her co-workers. Virginia was a faithful Christian and a longtime member of the Northcrest Church of Christ and, until her failing health, was always a very active participate. She was preceded in death by her parents; granddaughter, Jenny Chatham; two brothers; and one sister. Virginia is survived by her husband of 65 years, James D. Chatham of Mexia; son, James R. Chatham and wife, Jana L. of Fontana, CA; daughter, Carol Addy of Grapevine; grandsons, Chad Addy of South Lake and Erik Addy of Grapevine; granddaughter, Elizabeth Addy of Flower Mound and Julie Carroll of Canyon Lake; and great-grandchildren, Asher, Rylen and Hudson Martinez and Addison and Luke Carroll.
