Virginia Eudora Haygood

Virginia Eudora Haygood, formerly of Tomball, passed away December 17, 2023 in Waco, Texas at the age of 89.  Graveside services will be at 1:00 p.m., Friday, December 22, 2023 in the Cobb Cemetery, Thornton, Texas with Reverend Shane Norcross officiating.  Jacob Gorrell, Joshua Gorrell, Jimmy Lee Haygood, Ethan Haygood, Andy McLemore Haygood, and Phil Butler will serve as pallbearers.

Virginia was born July 22, 1934 in Shreveport, Louisiana to Andrew Warren and Lillian (Miller) McLemore.  She married James Lee Haygood on February 28, 1953 in Shreveport, Louisiana; they were blessed with three children.  Their sons, Jim and Andy were born in Shreveport and their daughter, Becky, was born in Dallas where James had taken a job in the oilfield.  In 1964, the family relocated to LaFayette, Louisiana due to an oilfield job change.  James and Virginia’s final move was to Houston in 1976 to start a new well testing business.

After James Lee passed away in 2009, Virginia moved to Tomball in 2012.  After she was diagnosed with dementia in 2018, she moved to Waco to be closer to Becky where she remained until her death.

Virginia’s life revolved around her love for God and family.  She was a longtime member of the Champion Forest Baptist Church where she was actively involved, and willing to help, in most all their activities.  Although Virginia loved her children, her grandchildren owned her heart; she loved nothing more than being a grandmother.

Virginia had many interests in life, she enjoyed traveling, especially on the trip to Israel with a group of other ladies, snow skiing, playing Bunco, needlepoint, and she loved entertaining.   

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband of 56 years, James Haygood; son, Jim Haygood; and son-in-law, John Gorrell.

Virginia is survived by her son, Andy Haygood and wife, Kristina of Tyler; daughter, Becky Gorrell Jackson and husband, Ivan; daughter-in-law, Lali of Lafayette, LA; grandkids, Jacob Gorrell, Joshua Gorrell, Jimmy Lee Haygood, Ethan Haygood, and Andy McLemore Haygood; great grandkids, Ian Gorrell of Hewitt, Belle Gorrell of Hewitt, and Madison Gorrell of Thornton.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials may be made to a charity of choice.
