Funeral services for Walter Jethro Newsom 89, of Bryan will be held Monday, June 9, 2008 at 1:00 p.m. in the Union Cemetery Chapel in Freestone County. Chaplain William Plotts will officiate with interment to follow in the Union Cemetery. Visitation with the family 5 - 7 p.m. on Sunday at Blair-Stubbs Funeral Home. Mr. Newsom was born December 11, 1918 to Clarence Alvin and Georgia (Bond) Newsom in Donie, Texas. He passed away on June 6, 2008 in Bryan. Mr. Newsom served his country in the U. S. Army during World War II. He was in underground communications and the signal corp. on Anzio Beach. He later worked for Tyler Pipe. He was a member of the Unity Baptist Church in Corsicana. He is survived by a son, Walter L. Newsom and wife, Barbara of Bryan; daughters, Cathy Nell Rinewalt of Waco, Sue Tudor and husband, Paul of Waco; 5 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren; brother, Dale Newsom and wife, Patty of Sudan.
