Warner Dean Hancock, 83, passed away, as the result of an auto accident, on May 31,2023.  Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m., Saturday, June 3, 2023 at the First United Methodist Church in Mexia with Reverend Brad Brittain officiating.  Visitation with the family will be prior to the service beginning at 1:00 p.m.  Interment will follow in the Mexia Cemetery.  Pallbearers will be Jake Cherry, Stephen Bradley, Mark Bradley, Scott McBay, Frank Barker, and Ty Barker.  Honorary pallbearers will be Trenton Feverston, Bob Wright, Bob Hamilton, Bill Brown, Terry Reel, Brayden Newsom, and Gage Newsom.

Warner Dean was born September 5, 1939 in Teague, TX to Warner Douglas and Mary Odessa (Milburn) Hancock. Warner grew up in the Tehuacana and Shiloh communities as a child where he made many friends. Upon graduation from Mexia High School Warner attended University of North Texas where he received his Bachelor’s degree and then received his Masters from East Texas State University.

Warner Dean was a career educator/school administrator having taught in Pearsall, Port O’Connor, and Mesquite. Warner culminated his career in Mexia when he was named Principal at R.Q. Sims Intermediate when it opened in 1986 until 1998 when he retired. Warner enjoyed the outdoors from many trips to the deer lease with his family, to fishing trips, and trips to Colorado. Warner had a deep passion for the Texas Rangers and the Dallas Cowboys. He was an avid reader, and especially enjoyed the writings of Louis L’Amour, Tom Clancy, and Lee Child.  Warner will be remembered as being a prankster, as a charismatic, and he would tell a story to anyone that would listen.

Warner was preceded in death by his spouse, Gloria Jean (Wilburn) Hancock; parents, Warner Douglas and Mary Odessa Hancock; and grandson, James Douglas “Trey” Feverston III.

Surviving Warner Dean are wife, Verna Hancock; daughter, Lisa Cherry and husband, Joey, daughter Donna Feverston and husband, James; grandsons, Jake Cherry and wife, Lyndsey and Trenton Feverston and wife, Megan; great grandsons, Will and Jase Cherry and great granddaughter, Addie Cherry.  Special daughter, Lisa Brown Simmons and Cathy Carson. Along with stepdaughter, Kelly Baker and step-granddaughter, Ella Sumrall.
