Weldon Dee Black was born on December 9, 1919 to Dee and Farrah Black in Mexia, Texas. He attended Mexia schools and worked with his Dad hauling oil field equipment and taking baled cotton to Houston. He was drafted in the army in World War II in 1942 and served in the Phillippines, New Guinea and Australia. He served as a cooks helper and truck driver driving over rugged and dangerous terrains. He was honorably discharged in 1945 and went to help on the family farm raising cotton, corn and hay until he went to work for Lone Star Gas in 1957. It was at a singing school being taught by one of his uncle's that he met the love of his life, Ava Lee Walker. After a time of courtship, they were married on December 21, 1949. They were blessed with three children. Son, Lonnie Black & wife, Tamela: grandchildren; Craig, Thomas, Tabatha and Heath; great-grandchildren; Fabia, Brandon, Garrett, Tiffany & Courtney. Daughter, Cynthia O'Pry & husband, Ricky: grandchildren: Gregory & Tara: great-grandchildren: Meagan and Chance. Daughter, Julie Neal: granddaughter; Allison. Weldon loved people and he loved life. He loved working with wood and built many different items of furniture for his family such as china cabinets, tv entertainment centers, toy boxes for the grandkids and curio cabinets. Not being a person that sat inside, if you started looking for him you would most likely find him in the garage or his shop tinkering with something. Give him a job to do and you could depend on it being done right. After his retirement from Lone Star Gas Company in 1985, he went to work for Brookshire Grocery Company as a courtesy clerk. He especially enjoyed this job as he got to see and talk to people all day. Weldon loved his family with an unconditional love. He could always be depended on. His wife and kids knew that he would be there for them no matter what. Funeral services will be 2 PM Saturday, June 2, 2007 in the Temple Baptist Church in Mexia with interment following the Mexia cemetery. Family visitation will be Friday evening from 6 to 8 PM at the funeral home. Pallbearers will be Steve Walker, Keith Walker, Alan Walker, Craig Black, Gary Black, Heath Wells, Gregory O'Pry and Ricky O'Pry.
