West Moreland Branch, of Teague, passed away August 23, 2019 in Waco, just a month shy of his 101st birthday. Funeral services will be 10 am Tuesday, August 27, 2019 at the Blair-Stubbs Funeral Home Chapel In Mexia with Rev. Darrel Beggs officiating. Interment will follow in the Greenwood cemetery in Teague
Visitation will be Monday, August 26, 2019 from 5 to 7 pm at the funeral home
West was born October 8, 1918 in Groesbeck, Texas to Arthur Clingman and Stella Mae Beard Branch.
A cowboy at heart, he spent a number of years working on the Barron's ranch. He later served his county as a medic in the Army during World War II. He saw action in the Pacific Theatre on the island of Luzon in the Philippines. His duties also took him to Australia, New Zealand and New Guinea.
After the war, he went to work for the VA as a surgery tech, a career that spanned 47 years. West worked at both the Marlin and Temple hospitals, retiring at the age of 78.
He married the love of his life, a Teague girl, Jayne Millender Mabry in 1998 and they had a wonderful honeymoon in Hawaii, and a happy life together prior to Jayne's death in 2011.
West was rewarded for all his service to others by having his step-daughter, Yolonda Mabry be his advocate, companion and friend for 8 years after Jayne's death.
