William “Bill” Floyd Lane, Sr., of Prairie Hill, passed away January 18, 2021 in Waco, Texas at the age of 64. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m., Thursday, January 21, 2021 at Blair-Stubbs Funeral Home with Bro. Josh Gafford. Interment will follow in the Prairie Hill Cemetery. Bill was born July 4, 1956 in Mexia, Texas to Harvey Curney Lane, Sr. and Noreeta Ann Briggs Lane. He was a lifelong resident of the Mexia/Limestone County area and a graduate of Mexia High School, Class of 1974. Bill married Shirley Isbell on September 28, 1979 in Tehuacana, Texas and they were blessed with over 41, happy, years together.
Bill was a pipeline welder for 10 years, prior to working as Manager of the Wheelchair Shop at the Mexia State Supported Living Center where he retired after 25 years of service. He enjoyed his retirement as he had more time to spend with Shirley and their family, and time to enjoy a few hobbies. There was nothing he enjoyed more than having time to spoil his grandchildren and great grandchildren, which they loved and, needless to say, they thought Pappy was the greatest. Bill’s family will always remember his delicious homemade biscuits and sausage gravy (made from scratch) and his wonderful chocolate cake.
Bill was a happy, go lucky, country boy and always greeted everyone with a friendly smile. As a young man, he spent many days fishing in Bass tournaments and, in later years, he enjoyed fishing in local lakes and rivers, in addition to hunting. Bill also loved, and was very good, at making wood ornaments to give away or sell.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Harvey, Sr. and Noreeta Lane.
Bill is survived by his wife, Shirley Lane of Prairie Hill; children, Cheryl Hancock and husband, Kyle of Tehuacana, son, Bubba Carter and wife, Sabrina of Prairie Hill and William Lane, Jr. and wife, Lisa of College Station; grandchildren, Katelinn Hancock, Chelsea Carter, Kyler Hancock, Ashley Ramirez and Trenton Kohlhauff, Gracie Sumner, and Tobie Walker and husband, Chad; great grandchildren, Rylee and Charlee Gordon, Ellie Ramirez, Aubrey Kohlhauff, and Ethan and Tulsa June Walker; brothers, Harvey Lane, Jr. and wife, Latresa, Mikey Lane and wife, Tracye, and Freddie Lane; special friends, Aaron and Lori Martinelli and daughter, Emily; and numerous nieces and nephews.
