Wilmer E. Herring, of Shiloh, passed away March 10, 2024 in Mexia, Texas at the age of 78. A Celebration of Life service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, March 15, 2024 at the Shiloh Baptist Church with Reverend David Snow officiating.
Wilmer was born January 14,1946 in Mexia, Texas to John Willie and Oda (Alewine) Herring. He graduated from Mexia High School, Class of 1964. He was a retired employee of the Mexia State Supported Living Center.
Wilmer’s family was the light of his life, just as he was in their lives. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and uncle. He could not have been any prouder of his son, Willie, and grandson, J. W. in addition to his bonus children. Wilmer and Willie shared many things together, country music was likely their favorite. Anytime Willie and his band were playing, he made every effort to attend, not only to support him, but because he thoroughly enjoyed listening to the music. He liked to listen to any of the “Outlaw Country” singers.
Wilmer was a quiet, laid-back country boy with a big heart. He was always willing to help, not only his family, but anyone that needed anything (regardless of how he was feeling). He wasn’t one who liked to be idle, he had to be busy working at something; he loved mowing and did it often. Wilmer also enjoyed family fishing and camping trips, playing golf with his wife, Pam, and spending time with his nephew, John. In his younger years, he found great pleasure in riding his motorcycle.
He was preceded in death by his parents; John and Oda Herring; and brother and sister-in-law, Marion and Virginia Herring.
Wilmer is survived by his loving wife, Pamela; sons, Willie Herring and wife, Brandy, Rodney and Brandon; daughter, Sandra Erwin; grandsons, J. W. Herring and Clint Brown; and nephew, John Herring.
